Increase Your Sales Not Just Your Traffic
Surely the whole point of your website is to bring in more sales.
You have a great looking website. People comment on how great it looks and yet you don’t seem to be getting any where near the increase in sales you expected when you implemented it.
Why is that?
There are only two real reasons for a lack of sales through your website.
Firstly you are not getting enough of the right type of visitor and secondly you are not converting enough of them into customers.
I know that sounds pretty obvious, but you would be amazed how many of us get this wrong on our websites.
Through some fairly simple changes to address these two reasons you can dramatically increase your sales.
Getting more of the right people to your website.
There are a lot of people who will tell you that to increase your sales you need to increase the traffic to your website. This is true up to a point. What you really need to increase is the traffic of visitors who are interested in what your website has to offer.
You want to avoid attracting “tyre kickers”. These are people who like to browse but have no intention of buying from you. They are simply not in the market for what you have to sell.
You do want to attract people who are looking to buy what you have to sell.
To do this you need to think like your customers. Try to imagine you are that customer. What would you type into your search engine to find your business? If you sit and think for a while you will probably come up with quite a few phrases. These are the phrases you should be using to optimise you website.
If you don’t know how to optimise your website then you should take my free online web optimisation course.
Converting Visitors to Customers
You ONLY have 8 seconds to convert a customer!
Frightening statistic isn’t it. It’s widely accepted that a visitor to your site will spend no more than 8 seconds before deciding to leave.
How on earth to you sell to someone in those 8 seconds?
The answer is you don’t.
What you do is offer them something for free in exchange for their email address.
You can then use that email address to establish a longer term relationship and ultimately sell to them. Be careful not to SPAM your potential customers with lots of “buy from me” type emails. You have to offer genuine value in you emails.
Let’s face it, why should anyone buy from you through your website if that is the first time they have come across you. These days you have to spend more time convincing your customer that you are genuine and that you have a service they will want to buy.
In lesson 3 of my Web Optimisation course, I talk in more detail about writing great web pages for converting your visitors into customers.
